What is Resveratrol?

What is Resveratrol?

At Vera Roasting Company, all of our coffees are infused with resveratrol. But what is resveratrol and how do you say it? Resveratrol (pronounced rez-VERA-trawl) is a naturally occurring polyphenol that is found in plants including grapes, peanuts, and blueberries. It acts as an antioxidant, protecting plants from free radicals caused by extreme weather, pollution, and predators. Antioxidants work on a cellular level to help your cells respond to threats from external sources. When incorporated into a person's diet, antioxidants can fulfill a similar function.

Resveratrol is best known because of studies connecting red wine drinkers with improved heart health. If you've heard that red wine is good for your heart, it is because of the resveratrol that is present. In studies going back over thirty years, researchers have found a positive connection between red wine consumption and cardiovascular health.

Antioxidants like resveratrol should be consumed daily to deliver the full benefits. That's why we infuse our coffees with resveratrol. Most coffee lovers can't imagine going without their daily cup of coffee and most consume a few cups every single day. By adding resveratrol to your daily cup of joe, you are able to get the benefits of one of the world's most powerful antioxidants into your diet without taking supplements or drinking more red wine.
