On Thursday, January 16th, we trekked through the snow to support the American Heart Association of Maine at their Hearts on Ice event at Aura in Portland, Maine. This annual event supports the Go Red for Women campaign and we were thrilled to be a sponsor.
At the event, attendees sipped our heart healthy coffee infused with resveratrol and bid on amazing auction items like Red Sox tickets, vacation packages, and jewelry to support cardiovascular research in Maine.
The night's keynote speaker, Monica Salamone, survived an aortic dissection at age 34. “I’m here because I’m a survivor. I’m here because people push forward every day looking for reasons why things like this happen,” said Salamone. “They look to see how they can fix it or prevent it. They improve upon improvements and make our lives better and the American Heart Association is a big reason why these researchers and doctors can do these things and save people like me.”
Dr. Michael Robich, a Maine Medical Center Cardiac Surgeon, also presented a brief overview of his research on resveratrol. His research was funded in part by an American Heart Association grant.
Thanks to everyone who came out to support the American Heart Association and they fantastic work they do! If you would like to support the American Heart Association, please visit their website and make a donation.
